Time For Percy Dougherty to Switch Parties and Run for County Executive

Chris Casey says Percy Dougherty will face a Tea-fueled primary challenge from Scott Aquila:

Sources tell me Mr. Woodman is determined to spend whatever it takes to defeat Dr. Dougherty, doing to Percy what he did to Dean Browning in 2011.

In 2011, Woodman mobilized the base of true believer Republicans against Browning ousting him.

There is no reason to doubt that he could not do it again. To that end, I turn to my old friend “The Numbers” who we all know don’t lie.

Chris goes on to show how easy it probably will be for the tea people to find the votes to put Aquila over the top and go on to beat Democrats in the 2nd District general election.

Percy Dougherty is going to lose this election unless he switches parties and runs as a Democrat. It may be possible that he could win as a Democrat running for his current Commissioner seat, but I think the more likely path to reelection is to run for County Executive as a Democrat. In addition to saving Dougherty’s political career, it would be a juicy political event that would shine a bright light on how extreme and unpopular the Lehigh Republicans’ policy agenda is. If Democrats had a better Exec candidate there might be a reasonable debate to be had about letting Dougherty in, but since they don’t have any candidates, this is a no-brainer.

  1. What are the requirements for him to get on the ballot as an Independent?

    • Jon Geeting says:

Way too high. Don’t have time to look it up right now, but the number of signatures you need is way higher than for Ds and Rs.

  2. Ridiculous, that kind of bullshit has to stop.

I’d vote for him as Democrat, Ott is a train wreck.
