Where’s the Growth?

Low marginal tax rates correlate with weak growth:

That’s not an argument that higher rates lead to stronger growth, but it does put the lie to the conservative dogma that low marginal rates increase revenue by boosting growth. They do not. As former Reagan staffer Bruce Bartlett is constantly pointing out, “the truth is that no serious Republican economist has ever said that a tax rate reduction would recoup more than about a third of the static revenue loss.”

Charts like this are for people who are easily distracted by shiny trinkets.

Without looking at what was going on underneath the figures this is an even greater case of mental masturbation than you usually engage in.

You make the case every day that 25 year old kids are not capable of critical thought or analysis.

Oh really? So, please explain the failure of tax cuts for the wealthy on a consistent basis in another way? Otherwise, you look rather stupid right now.

Rising, you're misinterpreting what I said. In that period there were war economies, recessions, arms races, etc. To just look at one piece of information is a complete waste of time. Unfortunately it's also a hallmark of this blog, where Jon uses statistics like this to mislead readers as to what was happening.

    Complete mental masturbation.

Also, to think that increasing taxes results in a stronger economy is just inane.

Specifically, Alan Reynolds wrote about tax rates and resulting revenue to the Federal Government as a % of GDP (a favorite measure used in this blog).

There's more here than one statistic. Jon's a smart guy, but unfortunately he's easily mislead.
